Gadgets and gizmos a plenty

"You want thingamabobs? I've got twenty. NO BIG DEAL."

Hello friends. I finally reached that blessed point in my life where I was no longer bound by the confines of my AT&T contract and I kissed that crappy iPhone goodbye. I am now an Android girl. Who would of thought that day would ever come? My little (well it has a larger screen than crappy iPhone) Samsung Fascinate is exceeding all my expectations. Who would of thought you could actually make a call without sitting by my window and the call getting dropped 9 times during a 3 minute conversation? That function is CRAZY.

When J and I were going back and forth about different phone features and trying to figure out which phone I should get, my mom completely called me a geek. She may have even used the phrase geeking out, I can't remember. Hey, I got really excited about the prospect of actually being able to make phone calls on my cellular device.

PS. We ran out of milk at the office and I'm drinking my coffee black. Gross.
PPS. I am drinking my gross black coffee out of my new eco friendly reusable coffee cup I got yesterday. Isn't she cute? I love her and her pink outfit.

A picture of my new coffee cup, taken on my wonderful new phone.

I LOVE TO READ

My book club with Ethan Gilsdorf

So clearly I spent my Sunday at the Brooklyn Book Festival. It was pretty awesome. Literally tons of books and authors talking about their books. Picked up a couple books and can't wait to pick up a couple by authors I heard speak. Currently reading How to be Inappropriate by Daniel Nester. So far it's pretty entertaining. Can't wait to read I loved, I lost, I made Spaghetti and Fantasy Freaks and Gaming Geeks. I even got to talk a bit to Ethan Gilsdorf. I think we made his day by saying that the 3 of us all worked in gaming.

I met Jane Green!

Last night I braved what I thought would be mobs of people to listen to Jane Green speak about her latest novel, Dune Road, at a Barnes & Noble in the Upper East Side. It was such a great experience. She is absolutely adorable, hilarious, and quite charming. She even signed a copy of Dune Road for me. I have read a lot of her books, but I think Jemima J. will always be my favorite.

She's also addicted to Twitter. I think this is my favorite of her tweets: "Left a midnight snack for the deer yesterday: cayenne pepper on all the vegetables. Ha! That'll teach the f*ckers to eat my vegetables..."

Engulfed in Flames

As I have mentioned before I joined a book club. I had my first meeting last night and we discussed David Sedaris's When You Are Engulfed in Flames. Well, we sort of discussed. I was expecting a little more structured discussion, but we very casually touched on the book and spent the rest of the evening talking about what book we should read next, yoga and podcasts. I had a really great time though, and it was held at the awesome bar in Dumbo called ReBar. I will defiantely be going back. They have a super extensive list of drafts and wine by the glass. I am pretty sure the organizer of the group drank 2 glasses of wine and was tanked and very entertaining.

Anyway, back to the book. I really really enjoyed it. It was by far my favorite Sedaris book. I have found his others entertaining, but not ridiculously funny. This one was a lot darker and I found myself laughing out loud a few times on the subway. Even my fellow riders' stares couldn't keep me from reading on. I was told that this is not a book to listen to the audio version because his voice can get whiney and annoying.

I made some goals

So, I have been doing a lot of thinking lately about what I want from life and have made a few goals for myself to get me closer. Posting them makes it more likely for me to make progress towards attaining them.
  • Learn French. This is for two reasons. 1. I have always wanted to learn the language and 2. so I can move to Paris (which is hopefully a not so far fetched goal of mine).
  • Get 1000 page views on my blog in one day. I have a long way to go. Do that many people even care what I have to say? I guess we'll find out.
  • Make progress on the book ideas I have. The ultimate goal here is to get one published. I need to set aside time each week to work on this. Make a conscious effort.
  • Make time for myself, and not feel guilty about it.
  • Create a successful etsy shop.
  • Become an iMentor. I want to help someone and I think this is a way I would be good at that in NY.
  • Try a new recipe each week. I was doing really good at this one for a while, but I have slacked off.
  • Learn a way to express myself creatively. I like to try a lot of different things but I need to find one that works for me.
Now, if I just didn't have to sleep every day these goals would be a lot easier to complete. Looks like there is a lot of coffee in my future.
