What a Weekend!

I had such a wonderful Fourth of July weekend. Mine was filled with lots of sleeping, eating way too much pizza, getting a tad sun burnt, people watching at Long Beach, sucking at Frisbee, going toe-deep into the frigid water at the beach, drinking sangria on a roof top, straining to see the fireworks on the Hudson, catching up with friends, brunch, and napping. I'd say it was a successful weekend.

Seems a few others had the same idea to spend the 4th at Long Beach.

Katie and I stroll the Boardwalk after grabbing some lunch.

My life revolves around food.

I came to the realization today that my life truly revolves around food. I always knew it was the source of most of my thoughts and desires, but today I realized how bad my obsession was. I was in my yoga class this morning trying to be all zen. When the instructor was telling us to clear our minds, I was only mildly successful. All my everyday worries went out of my head, but I couldn't help but think about what kind of pizza sister and I were going to order later. Some one has a problem.

(L) Sister is not too happy to wait an hour for pizza.
(R) Some interesting art to entertain the people in line. I actually like it.

So, after my yoga class sister and I headed up to Grimaldi's in Dumbo. The line is always SUPER long, but sister's coworkers told her it was a must to try before she left NY. After an hour waiting in line, sister and I ate an entire large pepperoni pizza. We decided it was a good idea to walk home to try and balance the indulgence. Three hours later and I still feel ill. I don't think it was as good as Lucali, but at $14 bucks it is definitely more affordable. I swear I have eaten more pizza in the 5 weeks that sister has been here than in my entire 3 years in NY.

To Do...

While I have no intentions of leaving the great city of New York any time soon (that is unless my amazing employer feels I would be better utilized in our Paris headquarters :) ) I decided it was time to compile a list of all the things I want to do and places I want to see before I leave NY. I have crossed off a lot of my list in my 2 1/2 years (I seriously cannot believe I have been here that long) as a New Yorker.

  • Top of the Empire State Building
  • DONE. Hockey Game, luckily I have a totally obsessed Rangers fan friend, and another friend who works at MSG. I think this one is likely to happen :)
  • Brooklyn Botanical Gardens for the Cherry Blossom Festival (Future date with Jon)
  • Brooklyn Pizza tour
  • DONE. Guggenheim Museum
  • DONE. Visit the Doughnut Plant
  • DONE. Eat at Egg in Williamsburg
  • DONE. Run in Prospect Park
  • DONE. See Wicked
  • DONE. Explore Park Slope
  • See SNL
  • Go Ice Skating
  • DONE. Mets game, Been to a Yankees game a few times but I am an equal opportunities kinda girl
  • Bronx Zoo in the summertime. Half of the animals were hibernating when I went in the winter.
  • Accidentally walk by the Gossip Girl set and get invited to lunch with all my favorite stars.
  • Horse drawn carriage ride in Central Park
  • More summer movies in the park
  • Museum of Sex, purely for the comedic value
  • Katz Deli (after all one of my favorite movies is When Harry Met Sally)
  • BAM
  • DONE. Green Point bars with Katie
  • Attend a Fashion Week Show
  • Lucali Pizza. I hear it's great.
  • Red Hook Winery
I will be consistently adding things I have forgot or new things I want to do. I will also be crossing things off as I do them! Wish me luck. NY Friends - let me know if you want to do any of them with me!
