Georgetown Cupcakes

Have you guys heard of a little show called DC Cupcakes? Well, I hadn't either until this past weekend. I was down in DC visiting Jessie and she wanted to check out Georgetown Cupcakes in the cute Georgetown neighborhood of DC. Who am I to stand in the way of a girl with a sweet tooth? So, we headed out there and stood in line for the chance to try some of the famed sweet treats. And we waited. And waited. And waited. All the attention from the show sure created quite the line, but I have to say the wait was definitely worth it. These little cupcakes were not only adorable, they were delicious!

The great display of cupcakes. Flavors rotate daily, and seasonally.

The red velvet cupcake.

I think this was the chocolate2.

So while we waited in the loooong line, Jessie and I spent a good amount of time trying to narrow down the flavors we wanted to get. The longer we waited, the more cupcakes we decided we were buying. Our thought process went like this:

"Well, we waited all this time, I want to try a couple flavors."

"Ok, we'll each pick two flavors and we'll split them."

"I think I'll get the peanut butter chocolate one, and then red velvet"

"OK, I want vanilla2 and carrot"

"Eww, carrot cake?"

"OK, let's get half a dozen then. It's only $15. We can eat the rest later and bring them home"

"Great idea."

Well, we did get six cupcakes. But, we didn't have any left over when we finally got home that night. We ate half at the bakery, and then the rest for a snack later that night. And our review? DELICIOUS. We each had a different favorite, but we thought all of them were so good.

Our six cupcakes came so cutely packed.

Our selection: toffee crunch, vanilla2, carrot, peanut butter fudge, strawberry and red velvet. My favs were the toffee crunch and the vanilla2.

Those cupcakes didn't stand a chance.

Shot through the heart

Sunday night I helped Jessie cross seeing Bon Jovi live off her bucket list. The show was actually really good. However, I'm not sure if I enjoyed watching the band or the fans more. This one woman (there with her very embarrassed daughter) was dressed in a black sequined tank and had a short, messing curly bob which she kept under control in a white headband with the poof upfront. I seriously wish I would of caught her dancing on camera. She would get really in to it, and then cross her arms to try and contain herself, and then the music would get to her and her flashy dance moves/fist pumping would be let loose again. It was an endless cycle throughout the show. One I seriously found entertaining.

For Bon Jovi, the show was great, and I was surprised I knew more songs than I didn't know! They even played Pretty Woman! Kind of felt like I was back at XS the whole night, only sober. And without slutty dancers in 80's gear.

The panned out stage view. Yes, our seats were behind the stage, which didn't suck as bad as I expected. He kept turning around and performing to the back.

Check out those dance moves!

Close up shot.

Such an angel.

Jessie visited this weekend. I really love it when she is here. We ate. We made snow angels. We hung out with a Norwegian (in addition to ourselves!). We had a snow ball fight. We had brunch by the fire.

I love her.

My first snow angel was a success!

What a wonderful Monday

I am LOVING fall. You are probably sick of hearing me say that, but I am. Everything is just so much more pleasant with a chill in the air and a comfy scarf on! Last night I lit my pumpkin (see iPhone photo above - scary right?), ate one of my delicious pumpkin cookies and sat back with my friend and watched an intense episode of Gossip Girl. I am loving Hilary Duff. She always rocks my world.

PS. Happy Birthday to the most amazing sister. She turns 23 today!
PPS. Remind her she needs to update her blog more. She says Florida is boring, but she has to have something to write about :)

Puppy Love

My sister is the shiznit - no doubt about it. She surprised me with the BEST GIFT EVER when I went home this weekend. Tacky Renaissance wiener dog salt and pepper shakers! I mean, who doesn't love wiener dogs? Or the Renaissance? I know I do. I have been on the hunt for tacky s&p shakers for quite some time not with out a lot of luck. You have to have the right level of tacky, or they just wont work. These are so perfect. There are magnets in their noses so they even kiss. How adorable! I can't wait to have someone over for dinner to show them off. Thanks sis - I love them. :)

Sister, Sister

Dear Sister:

You just left and I am already sad you are gone. I had so much fun with you and ate more pizza while you were here than the whole rest of the time I have lived in NY. I miss you so.

Love Kelley

She cooks while I drink wine

Last night Jessie decided to cook me dinner for a change. She made a delicious cabbage creation and some chicken.

She also set off the fire alarm and spilled wine on my computer. At least the food tasted good.

I would like to introduce you

To my sister. Isn't she beautiful? She is 22, single, and loves to eat anything she can possibly get her hands on. Seriously, anything. Any takers?

Double Trouble

My sister is here for the summer! I was nice enough to meet her at the airport and help her carry one of her bags (an old vintage Navy duffle of my mothers lol). The New Yorker in me managed to carry the 40 pound bag in platform heels. I'm so talented :) This summer is going to be quite an adventure - sharing a studio is going to be quite an adjustment. But, I'm so excited and can't wait for all the fun we will have. I even welcomed her to our neighborhood with a champagne toast!

Friday was filled with sunny skies and warm temperatures. It was the perfect combination for a rooftop party and that was exactly how I spent my night. We celebrated Jessy's birthday by grilling out in the great outdoors, 6 stories up. Great food, fun and friends led to one amazing night. I'm still full from all the food I ate. No one goes hungry when Jessy is in charge :)

The weekends are just too short

Things that happened to me this weekend:
  • I got tripped by two punk teenage girls in velcro shoes. Good thing I have cat like reflexes and didn't fall on my face.
  • Danced to my all time favorite song - Madonna's Like a Prayer - in a Greenpoint bar (I missed you Ape!!)
  • Hoped a girl would fall into the hot tub she was dancing on top of at Hudson Terrace
  • Enjoyed a delicious brunch at Union Smith. Left beyond full.
  • Went through the Sierra Mist sun-washing tent at the Park Slope Fifth Avenue Street Fair
  • Made keys for my sister (she gets here Thursday!!!!!)
  • Witnessed two very very drunk girls and guy begin to have sex on the dance floor
  • Spent $24 at the Trader Joe's wine shop and left with four bottles
  • Ate a few too many delicious apricot bars at my friend's party. She said the secret ingredient was the fresh butter.
  • Enjoyed both a Hillary Duff and J Lo movie on tv - doesn't get much better than that
  • Witnessed the wonder that is the ShamWow.
I'm exhausted, but all in all a successful weekend.

Living on my Lonesome

Living on my own was never something I just had to do in my life - I like having people around to tell me when my outfit looks ridiculous. However, I do. And, I have learned to embrace my solitude and actually enjoy my alone time. Some of the best things about having your own place in my opinion are:
  • Not having to have a schedule to use the shower.
  • Always being able to watch the tv shows I want to watch.
  • The apartment is always as clean as I left it. If the dishes pile up, it's my fault.
  • Being able to keep all my products in the bathroom where they belong and not in a basket in my bedroom.
  • Not having to worry about drunk roommates coming home (not that this was ever really a problem of mine, but it could of been).
  • Being able to decorate any way my heart desires.
While that may sound just dandy, living alone is not always roses and sunsets. Sometimes you just get bored (which is probably why I am always out and about). But, not to worry - Sister is coming to live with me this summer while she has an internship! I am so excited. I look forward to doing the things that I miss about having roommates with her:
  • Having someone to watch tv with and veg out when I really don't feel like going out.
  • Only doing dishes half of the time. (I know you are looking forward to this sister)
  • Having some one to share my cooking creations with.
  • Having a built in brunch buddy again.
  • Gossiping whenever possible (even if it is over reruns of Gossip Girl - oh summer time)
  • PLUS SO MUCH MORE
I look forward to the sisterly bonding (and arguing) that will come. I love her so much and I can't wait for her to get here. May 21st will be here before I know it.

Gudahls and friend take over NY

Sister and friend came this weekend! We had so much fun. The weekend was full of fun stops at the Doughnut Plant (I'm hooked), Top of the Rock, NY Library, Soho (to get my new MacBook - yeah!), Times Square (the Naked Cowboy is a HUGE perv), and lots of bars and restaurants. I can't wait until sister comes back for the summer. She's working on getting an internship up here. Fingers crossed everything works out. You can check out all of our adventures here.

Sisterly Love

I am so excited. Sister is coming to town today! I miss her and can't wait for her to get here. She's coming with one of her friends. We have so many fun things planned that I will surely update you all on with photo documentation :)

PS. computer is shot (huge sad face) so my blogging frequency may decline until I break down and buy a new macbook, which may be this weekend so I can use sister's student discount.

I love my bracelet, and my sister who bought it

So my sister got me the most beautiful, delicate bracelet for my birthday and I absolutely love it. And her, for purchasing it. Not only is it from my favorite website ever, ETSY.com, its just pretty. :) Its a simple hammered gold bracelet with a hook type thing bent in. I must buy more of them. Please ignore my freckled, old looking, overly dry arm that is sporting such a beautiful creation.
